Learn About the Angel Tree Mission Project
Just imagine receiving only one gift for Christmas or having a parent away from the family for years, especially on birthdays and graduations. Raising a family without a partner is quite lonely for a spouse or grandparent. Children are missing their moms or dads during the most important time of their lives.
The Angel Tree ministry was introduced to the Children's Mission Sunday school on November 4. The children saw a video showing parts of the Lorton prison, along with a mother's perspective of being without her spouse. We played an energetic game, laughed, prayed, discussed the feelings of children who have a parent in prison and heard a story that highlighted their confused feelings. The children tried to put themselves in this position, discussing the associated feelings of sadness, and assembled gift ornaments and personalized messages from incarcerated parents to their children.
There is hope and love as we reach out to these families and God keeps this hope alive for children and parents as they wait years for their beloved to come home. These families depend on you for a gift to help keep the true message of Christmas alive.
