Faith and Fitness
God's Spirit doesn't make cowards out
of us. The Spirit gives us power,
love and self-control.

Resolved to Get Fit?
Let FPC Help!
The New Year is a time when many of us take stock of our lives, consider lessons learned, and contemplate goals for the future. One of the most common resolutions is to get into shape, which usually means eating better, losing weight, and improving fitness. While it is easy to identify these actions, most people find it more difficult to figure out exactly what to do to reach these desirable goals.
The new fitness ministry at Fairfax Presbyterian is designed to help you do just this: figure out how to set and reach reasonable fitness goals, using the best information that exercise and nutrition science can offer to guide you in the process. The ministry will rely on both spiritual and scientific information to help us understand not only what we can do to improve or maintain our health, but also to appreciate the Christian imperative for why we should get moving. Improving and maintaining personal fitness are critically important aspects of respecting God’s gift of life. When we challenge ourselves to achieve and maintain fitness we not only cultivate fuller and more active lives, we also give ourselves the strength and vitality to reach out to others, spread God’s word, and do His work.
The fitness ministry is the brainchild of Vik Khanna, a fitness coach with Tuff Trainers in Ellicott City, MD. Vik, who is also a physician assistant, an experienced health care consultant, and a longtime weightlifter and cyclist, will be at FPC each month to lead a fitness and nutrition seminar. The idea for a fitness ministry took flight when Vik and Pastor Brinton met last summer.
Make the year that the fitness trinity (strength training, aerobic fitness, and good nutrition) becomes as integral a part of your life as the Holy Trinity. We meet now quarterly on a Sunday at 12:30 for an hour in the Multi Purpose Room and are led by Vic and Pastor Brinton. Ask Rev. Brinton or Vic about the book Ten Commandments of Faith and Fitness.
