Freedom through Friendship

  • Riding Roller Coasters: Who's Controlling the Speed of this Thing Anyway
  • Life in the Fun House: Is that Me or a Crazy Mirror?

  • Freedom through Art, Movement, and Laughter

  • The Freedom of Faithful Living

  • For Freedom Christ has Set Us Free

Christ offers us freedom, but the world has other ideas. This retreat provides an opportunity for us to reflect on what Paul means when he tells us that Christ has set us free so that we might live in freedom rather than be enslaved. Christ offers us freedom. Are we able to accept it? What would it mean if we did? How might greater faith in the freedom of Christ make our lives more centered, creative, and expansively generous?
We will explore these themes through the study of scripture, group discussion, prayer, corporate worship, reflective silence, art, gentle physical movement, and laughter.

This is a great time to meet new friends and renew old acquaintances as well as deepen ourselves spiritually both as individuals and as a community. Janet led an awesome retreat in 2002 and we look forward to another great retreat. Please join us!

About the Speaker

To lead our retreat, we welcome back Dr. Janet Weathers. She is the founding Director of the Institute for Creative Transformation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people strengthen their spiritual lives. Prior to founding the Institute, Dr. Weathers served on the faculty of Princeton Theological Seminary. She led our last retreat “Replenishing Your Well”.

Where and When

The retreat will be held Friday evening, all day Saturday, and Sunday morning at the Missionhurst Mission Center in Arlington. You have the option of a complete “getaway” and stay Friday and Saturday nights or the “day-only” option and just come to the meals and sessions. If you choose the “day-only” option, please plan on attending Friday night and Sunday morning too!! Please note that the facility is handicapped accessible.

How much

The cost of the retreat is $150 for those staying overnight and $100 for the day-only option. Our prices have had to increase as we had to find a new retreat location. We have set up a scholarship fund for those who could use financial assistance. Please contact Nancy Partridge (703.378.8134) who will handle this in confidence. We will make it possible for all who want to come!

The deadline for registration is Sunday, March 7, 2004. If you have any questions, please contact Lois Aroian at 571-432-0275 or Serena Mercer at 703-352-1515
