Getting to Know the Golden Age Ministry

The Golden Age Ministry (GAM) was started in 2007 with a Session approved charter. GAM’s purposes are:

• To create a network of like-minded persons who seek to support seniors at FPC
  
• To provide practical information resources for FPC Seniors regarding a variety of issues, such as nutrition, exercise, driving/transportation,insurance, other health-related concerns, and alternative living arrangements
  
• To provide for spiritual development for seniors through group participation, studies, and counseling by clergy
  
• To enjoy and contribute to life at FPC and the community.

The Golden Age Ministry is a network of seniors and those who wish to support them. The Ministry provides practical information, spiritual development, and fellowship opportunities. Our Information Resource Files are now permanently housed in the FPC library. This wonderful array of timely articles and copious references on Senior issues is available to anyone.  You need not be a senior citizen to join this small group. Maybe you have a parent about whom you are concerned. Need a long-distance care-giving tip? Looking for information on county services? Our resources might have just the lead you need. Check us out! It’s free! GAM is your small group.

GAM Meetings - Since formation in July 2007, we have met monthly, usually after the second worship service on Sunday. We have had speakers on Hospice care, celebrated Christmas at the Presbyterian Women’s dinner, heard some Broadway show tunes, learned about taxes, and had a tour of the new Fairfax City Regional Library. We often share a
sandwich at the meetings. Watch the bulletin and Octagon for news of our next events. Support to seniors and caregivers is our over-arching purpose. How do we plan for our own aging? How can we assist others like us, who are aging? What resources can we assemble and share? We have already started! Will you join us?
