Penny Newsome, our guest oboist in the 8:45 service, is daughter-in-law of Sanctuary Choir member Ann Slomski.

Pepper Choplin is a young minister of music in Raleigh NC. He has composed this exciting piece in a black gospel style. He also wrote the words, which are a prayer for God to take control of our lives.
Our guest soloist, Jim Lawson, is a key member of the music program at Grace Presbyterian Church in Springfield VA.
Offertory (11:15): Organ solo

Teen Choir Meeting Report
Acting Music Director Kenneth Martin met with the teens and their parents of the Teen Choir on Sunday, January 13, to discuss the rehearsal schedule. It was decided that the current members of the Teen Choir will rehearse this coming Sunday, January 20, at 10:00 in preparation for singing with the Sanctuary Choir in the Missions Worship Service on February 3. Then, beginning February 10, the Teen Choir will rehearse at 12:30 on Sunday afternoons. This will be a perfect time for other youth to join the Teen Choir!
Instrumental Ensemble Rehearsal
The Instrumental Ensemble will rehearse this Sunday, January 20, at 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall (room 145). They will be preparing the following music to be used in the Missions Worship Service on February 3:
"Lift High the Cross" arranged by Harold Burgmayer (Prelude)
"Doxology" arranged by Kenneth Martin
"When the Saints Go Marching In" arranged by Kenneth Martin (Offertory)
At least one additional hymn accompaniment
Sanctuary Choir Retreat
The annual Sanctuary Choir Retreat will be January 25-27 at Massanetta Springs Conference Center near Harrisonburg VA. They will begin rehearsing a major work to be presented in the Abendmusik program April 20 at 7:00 p.m. -- watch for additional details about this program!
New Year's Resolution -- Become More Involved in Music at FPC
Make a New Year's Resolution to become more active and involved in the music program at FPC! There are opportunities for every member of the family, from Carol Choir and Chapel Choir for children to the handbell choirs (Joyful Ringers, Radiant Ringers), instrumental ensemble, and choirs for adults and youth. For more information about any of these, see Dr. Martin. If nothing else, resolve to sing the hymns more heartily in 2008 as a member of the congregation!
