Preschool Operations Committee Named for 2008-2009
The Session of the Fairfax Presbyterian Church has named Jaimee Nygaard, returning FPP parent and FPC member, as chair of the 2008-2009 Preschool Operations Committee. Also confirmed are Amber Beaudion and Sarah Hogroian. Returning members are Beth Arnz, Nancy Thompson, and David Brenningmeyer. FPP is Looking for Budding Artists!
As we approach our 50th year of Preschool fun, we would like to design a new t-shirt. All students are encouraged to submit a drawing in a contest for our new design. All entries will be given to our esteemed judges Pastor Henry, Pastor Jessica, and Kathy Uphaus, FPC Publications Secretary, for consideration. The winning entry will be announced at our Family Sing-Along in May.

Director's Coffee - Parenting Issues: Resolving Problems
Parents from FPP and the FPC community attended a fast-paced presentation about "Parenting Issues: Resolving Problems" given by Marie Kodadek, PhD, of George Mason University. The presentation was well received and parents commented on the helpful information and tips shared based on academic research and personal experience. This free event took place on Wednesday, April 16th, at 7:00 p.m. Parents with children currently enrolled in the Preschool received one credit hour toward their required training. Contact the office to receive the accompanying handouts (while supplies last).

2008 Children's Consignment Sale
Our 3rd annual Children's Consignment Sale was successful once again in raising over $2,000 for the Preschool! Kudos to Nadia Stewart, this year's chairperson, and her able crew, which included parents, alumni parents, church members, and friends. Thank you also to our wonderful shoppers!

Open Registration for 2008-2009
FPP's open registration will begin Monday, February 4th, at 9:30 a.m. Families who want to enroll may register their child(ren) in the order in which their family name appears on the sign up sheet. (The sign up sheet will be posted outside the entrance to the preschool earlier that morning.) Please read registration paperwork requirements before arriving, so that you are sure to bring the documents you need. Contact the preschool office at (703) 273-4333 if you have any questions.

Open House Dates for New Families
FPP's annual Open House will take place on January 15th and 16th. This is an ideal time to tour our preschool and to learn more about our philosophy and program. Please contact the preschool office for specifics. 703-273-4333.

Winter Break and Advent Activities
The preschool will be closed for winter break Wednesday, December 19th, through Tuesday, January 1. Classes resume on Wednesday, January 2nd. Fairfax Presbyterian Church will hold a special family-oriented Advent service on Christmas Eve at 4:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Diane Murray
Fairfax Presbyterian Preschool is deeply saddened by the sudden and unexpected death of Diane Murray, a teacher of one of our classes for three year olds. A memorial service will take place at Everly Funeral Home on Saturday, December 8th, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Breakfast with Santa
FPP's annual Breakfast with Santa will be held on Saturday, December 8th, from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. Come join the fun and say hello to Santa! Ticket price includes breakfast items and beverages. New this year is our Holiday Marketplace, where you can shop for gifts and crafts. Tickets: $5 pp age 6 & up and $4 pp age 5 & under.

Kaydee Puppets Show
Kaydee Puppets gave a double feature performance at FPP on October 31st - The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Little Red Riding Hood. The kids were very excited and seemed to enjoy the shows! We have invited Kaydee Puppets to return next spring to perform another double feature, Rumplestiltskin and Noddaberry Good Day.

Parent Handbook Amended
The Preschool has issued two addendums (pdf) to the FPP Parent Handbook for 2007-2008. The addendums go into effect October 30th. Questions may be addressed to the Director.

Orientation and Training Dates
Student orientation will take place in small groups on September 6 and 7. Your child will receive a post card from his/her teacher indicating the exact date and time of his/her orientation. Parent orientation and training sessions will be held in the evening on September 4 and 5, and in the morning on September 11 and 12. Each adult working as a "parent helper" in the classroom must attend one orientation and training session. Please contact the Preschool Office if you have any questions or concerns.

New Director Announced
We are pleased to announce that Nini Johnson has been named Fairfax Presbyterian Preschool's Director for the 2007-2008 school year. Mrs. Johnson is an experienced preschool teacher and business manager. She will be a great asset to our preschool, and we are excited to welcome her to FPP!
